Keep Safety in Mind this Labor Day

A long holiday weekend often equals a road trip. As we honor our workforce this Labor Day, Gov. Mike Rounds is reminding everyone to travel safely.

"Our accident statistics are lower, indicating more South Dakotans than ever are being responsible drivers. And we're saving lives by being careful," said Gov. Rounds. "Please, keep highway safety in mind this weekend as you enjoy the holiday. Wear your seatbelt. Do not drink and drive."

Last year during the Labor Day holiday, one person died and 70 people were injured in traffic crashes.

Between January and July of 2007, there were 78 traffic crash fatalities in South Dakota. Between January and July of this year, there have been 59 traffic crash fatalities.
