Blackburn: "Liberal Leadership Guts Energy from Energy Bill"

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) joined other Members of the House Energy Action Team in expressing disappointment and frustration at the Democrat-sponsored energy bill that was recently passed out of committee and is poised for debate on the House floor.

"Very simply put, there is no energy in this energy bill," said Blackburn. "This bill does absolutely nothing for the American consumer who continues to watch prices rise at the pump and energy costs soar."

"Americans want reliable, renewable, and clean sources of energy that they can count on. They want to wean America off the addiction to foreign oil. This bill does none of that. The American people understand the need to explore for new sources of energy, but the liberal leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives has stifled any attempts to do so in this bill. In the end, this is an energy bill that does not address our energy concerns".

Blackburn supported several amendments in the Energy and Commerce committee that would allow the use of cutting-edge technology to explore and produce clean, efficient, and renewable sources of energy such as bio-diesel, nuclear, and hydropower. Yet Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Leadership have derailed these efforts, according to media reports, and continue to purse an energy policy that does not produce energy.

"The public expects us to address our rising energy costs, but this bill does none of that. While the Democrats ignore the need to produce clean and reliable domestic energy, the American people end up paying the price." Blackburn added.
