WICKER EARNS MOST CONSERVATIVE RATING IN HOUSE DELEGATION

First District U.S. Rep. Roger Wicker was rated the most conservative member of the Mississippi House delegation during the 2006 session of Congress.

The annual survey of members' voting records is done by the National Journal, a respected non-partisan Washington, D.C., publication that covers politics and government issues. The report gave Rep. Wicker an 88.5 percent conservative rating for 2006.

Since 1981, National Journal's vote ratings have defined where members of Congress stand ideologically. The ratings rank lawmakers on how they vote relative to each other on a conservative-to-liberal scale. The Journal's editorial staff based the 2006 ranking on 95 roll-call votes cast during the Congressional session. The votes covered social, economic, and foreign policy issues.

Rep. Wicker scored a 94 percent conservative rating on economic issues, 85 percent on social issues, and 83 percent on foreign policy matters.
