Issues: Labor Unions

In a packed hall at its annual Shop Steward Convention, 1,400 members of the Culinary Workers' Union Local 226 today cheered the union's emphatic endorsement of Dina Titus for governor. Culinary Secretary-Treasurer D. Taylor made the announcement this afternoon at Cashman Center, citing Titus' record of support for the working men and women of Nevada.

"The 60,000 members of the Culinary Union are proud today to stand with Dina Titus, who has fought for working families for decades," said Taylor.

"Our members help make Las Vegas and Nevada successful," he continued, "and having Dina Titus as governor will ensure that our members are able to get ahead, not fall behind."

Titus addressed the raucous crowd, thanking the group for its continued support and pledging to continue the fight for a better quality of life for all Nevadans, echoing the theme of today's union convention, "Living the Las Vegas Dream."

"Your endorsement means so much," she stated. "You are the backbone of our economy and the heart and soul of our service industry. We have fought together, worked together and stood together - and now I'm asking you to stand with me one more time."

"I believe in Nevada and I believe in your dreams," she continued. "I believe in access to education for all, in safe working conditions, in fair wages and in good jobs with good benefits. You should be confident in your retirement and safe in your home. You are entitled to live that dream - and together we can make it happen."
