Dennis Moore And The Washington Politicians Can't Have It Both Ways

Incumbent Dennis Moore claims he "promotes fiscal responsibility."
Yet Dennis Moore's recent vote against the Line Item Veto will
cost taxpayers billions with wasteful spending

Olathe, KS-Democrat Dennis Moore last week voted against the Legislative Line Item Veto Bill, H.R. 4890, to eliminate wasteful government spending that costs taxpayers billions. However, Dennis Moore's website claims he "promotes fiscal responsibility."

"This is the typical Washington-style two-step, where politicians tell their constituents one thing and do the opposite," said Scott Schwab. "Voters are tired of Washington politicians spending our hard earned dollars and not being honest about their records," added Schwab.

Dennis Moore was the only member of the Kansas House delegation to vote against the Line Item Veto Bill. Democrat Governor Kathleen Sebelius regularly exercises a line item veto in Kansas. Fortunately, the bill passed the House of Representatives by 247 to 172.

In 2005, Moore earned a shockingly low 21 percent approval rating from the National Taxpayers Union and a 25 percent approval rating from Americans for Tax Reform. These highly respected watchdog organizations criticized Moore for his votes on increased taxes and wasteful spending.

Federal government spending has increased by 33 percent from $1.86 trillion in 2001 to $2.48 trillion in 2005. During Fiscal Year 2006, it is estimated that 10,000 pork barrel projects were added as earmarks into appropriation bills costing taxpayers over $29 billion.
