Burns Statement On The New Bin Laden Tape Showing America Winning The War On Terror

(SYLVANIA, GA) - Max Burns, former Congressman and candidate for Georgia's New 12th District, today released the following statement following reports of an audiotape from Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden:

"Today's release of an audio tape from terrorist Osama Bin Laden offering a truce ‘with fair conditions' is proof that the United States is winning the War on Terror. Our men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan have done a great job and continue to do a great job and this tape proves that their missions are succeeding and that the Bin Laden network is running scared.

"Bin Laden must know that the United States will not let up in the war on terror despite the threats on the tape. He believed our way of life and the freedoms we enjoyed would be destroyed after he attacked us on September 11th, but he was mistaken and is finding out that our resolve and determination is still strong.

"This tape is proof we are winning and how important it is that the United States and coalition forces finish the job in Iraq and Afghanistan so that the world may be rid of terrorism once and for all."

Burns represented the old 12th District from January 7, 2003, through January 3, 2005. Prior to serving in the 108th Congress, Burns was a professor in the College of Business Administration at Georgia Southern University and a Senior Fulbright Scholar. He is a former Screven County Commissioner and served as its Chairman. Currently, Burns splits his time between his family farm in Sylvania and Washington, DC where he works with Thelen Reid & Priest as a Senior Policy Advisor. He focuses on issues important to Georgia including agriculture, health care, energy, transportation and education.
