Burns Salutes Rogers Proposal To Protect Military Families Honoring Their Dead

(SAVANNAH, GA) - Max Burns, former Congressman running to represent Georgia's new 12th District, today saluted Congressman Mike Rogers (MI-08) for proposing legislation that would allow grieving Americans the peace and dignity to bury their loved ones who lost their lives while serving this country. Rogers is introducing legislation this week which would restrict protests during funerals at national cemeteries for sixty minutes before or after a funeral, and would require any protests to remain five hundred feet or more from the grave site or individuals they are protesting.

"The families of servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price deserve respect and dignity when burying their loved ones," says Burns. "It is unconscionable that we even need legislation like this, but I support Congressman Rogers' efforts to protect these families from disrespectful protesters who dishonor their sacrifices."

Burns endorsed the legislation after hearing from veterans in the 12th District that these types of protests where hindering the funerals of servicemen and women.

"These families should be allowed to honor their loved ones without being harassed as they say their final goodbyes," says Burns. "Service members' families know the cost of freedom better than anyone and they deserve the respect of a grateful nation."
