Barrow Reveals Campaign Centered In Athens

(Savannah, Georgia) Athens Congressman John Barrow's campaign admitted this past weekend that his campaign for Congress has been run from outside the new 12th Congressional District. Through his spokesman, Barrow said he plans to set up a headquarters in the district soon, revealing that his 12th District campaign has all along been run from Athens, Georgia, part of the new 10th Congressional District.

"It's bad enough that he's running a deceitful campaign intentionally misleading 12th District voters about his true positions, but now we've learned he's running it from outside the district," said Max Burns, former Congressman running for Georgia's new 12th District. "Down here we aren't dishonest. This is just another example that proves John Barrow's not one of us."

Barrow, a fourth generation Athenian who's lived in Athens his entire life except when he attended Harvard Law School, said last October he would move to Savannah and run for Congress in the new 12th District. Even though the district no longer includes his hometown of Athens, Barrow said he would always represent the people of this community and would not sell his home in Athens when he bought a house in Savannah and moved shortly thereafter.

On the other hand, Burns has spent a lifetime in and around the 12th District. Burns and his wife Lora still live on the family farm in ScrevenCounty and he spent twenty years as a professor in the College of Business Administration at Georgia Southern University. He is a former Screven County Commissioner and served as its Chairman.

"John Barrow has been parading around the district misleading voters that he's from Savannah when the whole time his base of operation is Athens. He may have a phone number and bought a house in Savannah to have a physical address, but this just proves he has no intention of leaving Athens ," said Burns.
