BRADLEY SUPPORTS LEGISLATION THAT WILL PROTECT THE DIGNITY OF MILITARY FUNERALS

(Washington, D.C.) - Last night, First District Congressman Jeb Bradley supported legislation that will prevent protestors from harassing mourners at military funerals. Bradley is a cosponsor of this legislation, which passed the House of Representatives with significant bipartisan support by a vote of 408 to 3.

"Families deserve respect and solitude while mourning the loss of loved ones who served our country. They are entitled to peace and dignity while they grieve. There is no place for hateful speech during a funeral, and I hope this bill passes the Senate quickly so that President Bush can sign it into law," stated Bradley.

H.R. 5037, the "Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act," would prevent disruption of military funerals at national cemeteries beginning 60 minutes before and continuing for 60 minutes after the service. The bill also keeps protestors at least 500 feet away from mourners during any demonstration.

The measure now awaits action in the Senate.
