Boyle Statement on Passage of Continuing Resolution

Press Release

Date: Sept. 30, 2023
Location: Washington, DC

"Just 12 hours before a government shutdown, Speaker McCarthy finally decided to do his job and come around to what House Democrats, Senate Democrats, and Senate Republicans have been pushing for all along. I voted to pass it as I've always said I would -- because millions of families are counting on us to keep the government open. Though this bill is far from perfect, I urge my Senate colleagues to swiftly take it up so we can avoid a painful government shutdown.

Make no mistake: we would not be in this situation if House Republicans had honored the bipartisan budget agreement they reached with President Biden. For months, Speaker McCarthy and House Republicans have threatened to inflict pain and suffering on families across America because they were too afraid of the MAGA extremists in their party. Our servicemembers, teachers, and working families shouldn't have to worry about when they'll get their next paycheck or whether House Republicans will gut the vital services that help them feed their children. House Republicans must end this obsession with inflicting cruel cuts on families, teachers, and children -- and use this time to return to the bipartisan agreement they made back in May."
