LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON EXTREME MAGA REPUBLICAN FAILURE TO GOVERN

Statement

Date: July 27, 2023
Location: Washington, D.C.

"After weeks of chaos, extreme MAGA Republicans have once again shown they are unable to fulfill even the most basic responsibilities of governance. Instead of taking a bipartisan approach to invest in the health, safety and economic well-being of the American people, extremists have hijacked the appropriations process as part of their mission to jam their right-wing ideology and draconian spending cuts down the throats of the American people. Marching toward a nationwide abortion ban, targeting communities of color, banning books, bullying the LGBTQ+ community and eroding the social safety net are more important to House Republicans than investing in the programs American families rely on and preventing a government shutdown.

The fact that Republicans have adjourned the House for six weeks without finishing the work of funding the government is unacceptable. Unfortunately, it is also unsurprising. House Democrats will continue to focus on building an economy from the middle out and the bottom up and delivering for everyday Americans."
