Teachers Unions, Education Department Sweep Sexual Abuse Under the Rug as K-12 Cases Spike

Statement

Date: May 31, 2023
Location: Washington, D.C.

"This report highlights a pattern of gross misconduct by school officials and the Department of Education--who are beholden to teachers unions--to conceal directly or indirectly sexual abuse in K-12 public schools. Cases of sexual assault have tripled in the last decade, but instead of investigations and terminations, perpetrators are often transferred to another school or school district, or given an administrative job.

"The Department's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is complicit too. OCR has worked to reverse the progress made by the prior administration to compel school district officials to take decisive action in cases of sexual abuse.

"In no uncertain terms, this report shows that the Department of Education and teachers unions are putting children in harm's way. I hope that this report shines a spotlight on the deteriorating state of public schools in America and the consequences of the Left's radical education agenda. Rest assured, the Committee will continue to hold the Biden administration accountable for not putting students first."
