"Today's Supreme Court decision is a victory for Native tribes, children and the future of Native American culture and heritage. For over 40 years, the Indian Child Welfare Act has been considered the gold standard of child welfare law and has been championed by child advocates, bipartisan elected leaders and tribes across the country. Today's decision upholds decades of legal precedent and is an important win for tribal sovereignty. The ICWA is essential for the safety and well-being of Native children and will ensure that Native culture can be protected for generations to come. House Democrats will continue to stand with Indian Country in supporting tribal sovereignty throughout the land."
