LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON THE APRIL JOBS REPORT

Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 253,000 in April:

"The April Jobs Report shows that the Biden economic plan is working. More than 12.7 million jobs have been created over the past two plus years and the unemployment rate has dropped to a 50-year low. President Biden and Democrats are building a stronger economy from the middle out and the ground up. Our historic economic recovery is continuing to shatter expectations.

Unfortunately, extreme MAGA Republicans are working to undermine this economic success by threatening a catastrophic default on our nation's debt. A Republican-engineered default will tigger a job-killing recession, crash the stock market and explode costs. Right-wing extremists are willing to detonate the economy if they don't get their way. House Democrats will continue to partner with President Biden to build an economy that works for everyday Americans."
