Today, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) appeared on Fox News' America's Newsroom to discuss House Republicans' Secure the Border Act, which will come up for a vote this week as Title 42 expires. Leader Scalise outlined all of the proven border security methods President Biden ended after entering office, and notes how the Secure the Border Act would fight the flow of fentanyl pushed by cartels, secure the southern border and stem a growing humanitarian crisis.

On whether Secretary Mayorkas would support Republicans' border security bill:

"This is something that anybody who's serious about securing the border will support. Secretary Mayorkas has paid lip service, telling everybody, "The border's not open.' Of course, everybody knows the border's open, including people all around the country -- all around the world -- not just South and Central America. We're seeing over 140 countries represented coming in illegally to our border, and it's only going to get worse with the end of Title 42. So the bill that we brought forward, by the way, are things that President Biden could do today. End catch-and-release, give our border patrol agents more tools to actually secure the border, not to process people coming in illegally, reinstate the remain in Mexico protocol -- MPP, as it was known -- and the Northern Triangle agreements.

"Those are all things that President Biden got rid of right when he became the President, and he also halted construction of the wall. The money's there, [and] he could start building the wall again. He could do all those things on his own, but he won't because President Biden wants an open border. This bill -- the Secure the Border Act, that we're going to vote on this Thursday -- shows the country how we can secure the border. I hope that the Secretary finally wakes up and says, "Let's go do it.' I'm not holding my breath, but we're going to act. We're not going to sit on the sidelines while this crisis is already out of control. It's going to get much worse."

On getting bipartisan support for action on the border and revamping Title 42:

"Well, so far they've shown no interest in doing it from the Administration. This bill shows you how you can get [a] full[y] secured border if they wanted to go that route. But again, go look at the first two years of [President] Biden's presidency when Secretary Mayorkas said, "Congress should act.' They had the House, Senate, and White House and they never tried to act. In fact, it was administrative action that opened up the border. So President Biden -- with the stroke of a pen -- could solve this problem right now. He doesn't want to.

"You know what else they're not talking about, Dana? They're not talking about the nearly 300 young people -- every single day -- who are dying because of fentanyl and other drug overdoses in America that are directly due to [President] Biden's open border. That's almost 100,000 young people last year. Why doesn't President Biden care about the 300 young people that will die today, the 300 young people that will die tomorrow, because he opened the southern border [and] brought the drugs like fentanyl in because the cartels are running our southern border right now?"
