Durbin Meets With Illinois Municipal League, Illinois Mayors To Talk Infrastructure

U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with Illinois Municipal League (IML) leadership and Illinois mayors to discuss federal funding secured for Illinois infrastructure through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the American Rescue Plan (ARP). During the meeting, Durbin spoke about $17 billion in formula funding coming to Illinois from the IIJA and the $1.8 billion in IIJA grant funding he helped secure in 2022 for infrastructure projects across the state.
Durbin also broke down the $6 billion in ARP fiscal relief funding for Illinois municipalities, which can be used for covering pandemic costs, building out local infrastructure, and investing in economic development.
"Today in my meeting with the Illinois Municipal League and Illinois mayors, we focused on how best to rebuild our communities and make historic, much-needed investments in our infrastructure. We can move our cities and towns forward by working to bring federal dollars home to expand rural broadband services, improve our transportation infrastructure, invest in electric vehicles, and so much more," Durbin said. "I'll continue to be a strong federal partner for the Illinois Municipal League and Illinois mayors as we look to a brighter future."
