Today, Ranking Member Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Biden-Harris administration issued a proposed rule to improve nutrition standards for child nutrition programs and align them with the latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs).

"I am pleased that the Biden-Harris administration is making progress toward the evidence-based nutrition standards that our children need to grow up healthy. We know that providing nutritious food for children is critical to laying the foundation for their development and success. The best way to achieve this goal is to ensure that federal child nutrition programs align with the latest science and research.

"Updating these standards will bring us one step closer to eliminating child malnutrition and the gaps in access to healthy food. In Congress, I hope my colleagues on both sides of the aisle can come together to build on the critical support for nutrition programs that we passed in the American Rescue Plan as well as advance a comprehensive reauthorization of federal child nutrition programs."

In March 2022, then-Chairman Scott led Committee Democrats in supporting proposed child nutrition standards for school years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, which the Biden-Harris administration issued while it worked to propose full, long-term nutrition standards.
