Statement from Whip Clark on Gun Violence in America

Statement

Issues: Guns

Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark released the following statement on the recent string of mass shootings.

"Over the last three days, the scourge of gun violence has touched Americans across the country -- from students in Iowa and Louisiana to communities up and down the coast of California. These horrifying scenes follow dozens of other mass shootings that have devastated our nation in just the first few weeks of 2023.

"As these acts of mass murder dominate the headlines, a steady drumbeat of gun violence continues to kill more than 110 Americans every day -- including five children. Such a catastrophic epidemic requires bold, urgent action to save the lives of moms and dads, kids and siblings, neighbors and friends. That's why President Biden and the Democratic Congress enacted the historic Safer Communities Act. It's why House Democrats have voted to implement background checks and get weapons of war off our streets. And it's why Republicans have a moral duty to end their partisan obstruction and allow these commonsense ideas to finally become law."
