Press Release

Date: Jan. 17, 2023
Location: Washington, DC

Following the announcement of committee assignments by House Republicans, Rep. Gary Palmer (AL-06) shared his reappointments to the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.

Statement on rejoining the Energy and Commerce Committee

"Our nation is in dire need of responsible energy and economic policy that makes costs more affordable, rebuilds our economy, and protects the rights of all Americans. This is in stark contrast to the disruptive and ineffective policies being pursued by the Biden administration that have eroded our rights and led to record levels of inflation. I look forward to providing policy solutions on the issues that matter most to the American people."

Statement on rejoining the Committee on Oversight and Accountability

"Given my previous experience on the committee and my expertise in conducting rigorous oversight, I was honored to be asked by Speaker McCarthy and Chairman Comer rejoin the Committee on Oversight. Now more than ever, the American people want Republicans in the House to hold the Biden administration accountable for its actions that have undermined the integrity of the executive branch. Left unchecked, this administration will abuse the rights of Americans. It is up to Republicans on the Committee on Oversight and Accountability to shine a light on what this administration is hiding in the dark."

Background:

Rep. Palmer served on the Oversight Committee in the 114th and 115th Congresses. In the 115th Congress, he was the Chairman of Intergovernmental Affairs Subcommittee of the Oversight Committee.

The Committee on Oversight and Accountability will be the preeminent panel in Congress investigating the actions and decisions of the Biden administration and other federal agencies. Items to be investigated include: the failed withdrawal from Afghanistan that left 13 American military personal dead, the dereliction of duty in securing the southern border, pandemic relief fraud, the ongoing energy crisis, the origins of Covid-19, and the potentially compromising actions by the Biden family.

The Energy and Commerce Committee will continue to offer solutions on lowering costs, promoting free speech, and preserving free markets. In the previous Congress, Republicans on the committee highlighted the deadly fentanyl crisis, promoting American energy security, protecting the rights of consumers, and addressing the baby formula shortage.
