Trone Releases Statement on Adoption of Tentative Rail Agreement

Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to adopt the Tentative Agreement between railroads and railroad workers. The House subsequently passed a bill to add seven days of paid sick leave to the Agreement.

"Today, the House voted to avoid a national rail shutdown -- which would hurt millions of Americans -- and provide paid sick leave to union railroad workers. 

"This agreement will deliver crucial benefits to rail workers that were long overdue, including a 24% pay raise and $5,000 bonus, time off for medical care, and protection of insurance benefits. I also proudly voted to add seven days of paid sick leave to the agreement. Having built a business from the ground up, I know this will be a game-changer for millions of union workers and their families -- including thousands in Maryland alone.

"For generations, American rail workers have served our country. They've ensured food grown across the country arrives on our grocery store shelves. They've secured the safety of passengers going to work in the morning and returning home at night. They've built our country, and I will never take that for granted.

"While this agreement represents vital progress, the job isn't done yet. I won't stop fighting to make life easier for American workers. You can count on it."
