Press Release

Date: Sept. 28, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement in support of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health:

"Far too many Americans have struggled to put healthy food on the table, and even before the pandemic, too many residents in my district lacked access to nutritious foods," said Rep. Espaillat. "We must ensure across all communities that families are able to adequately feed themselves--and that no individual or child goes hungry. I applaud the Biden administration for convening the first White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health since 1969. This is an important moment to outline a national strategy to establish a healthier society at all levels and is a significant step towards achieving our goal of ending hunger and increasing healthy eating in communities around the nation. As an advocate for Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) benefits, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and expanding the child tax credits, I remain encouraged that the White House recognizes these programs as priorities for achieving our nation's long-term health goals and to provide nourishing school meals and expand food accessibility to underserved communities. Food insecurity is a battle that we all must face and solve together, and I look forward to continuing my work in collaboration with the Biden administration to reaffirm our commitment to healthy communities in my district and beyond."
