Location: Washington, DC

Today, legislation sponsored by Congressman Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), the Securing and Enabling Commerce Using Remote Electronic Notarization Act (SECURE Notarization Act), passed the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman Armstrong introduced this bipartisan legislation with Congresswoman Madeline Dean (D-PA) and it has another 122 cosponsors.

The SECURE Notarization Act will allow notaries public in the U.S. to perform Remote Online Notarization (RON), as well as allow signers located outside of the U.S. to securely notarize documents.

"Remote online notarization offers consumers a convenient way to safely and securely complete documents. Our bill will permit nationwide use of remote online notarization, increasing access to this important process. I am glad to see our legislation pass the House with an overwhelming and bipartisan vote, and I am hopeful the Senate will agree and pass the legislation to be signed into law," said Congressman Armstrong.

The bill has the support of twenty organizations, such as the American Land Title Association, that utilize notaries public daily. Companion legislation was introduced in the Senate by Senators Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and Mark Warner (D-VA).
