Fischer Statement on Biden's Reckless National Defense Strategy

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the top Republican on the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, released the following statement following the release of the unclassified versions of the Biden Administration's National Defense Strategy and Nuclear Posture Review:

"The global security environment we face grows more challenging by the day. Russia continues to threaten the use of nuclear weapons in Europe. China's nuclear capabilities have grown exponentially.

"Despite these dramatic shifts, the Biden Administration keeps trying to cancel critical programs and submit budget proposals that do not keep pace with growing threats.

"Now is not the time to shortchange our national security.

"Thankfully the Senate Armed Services Committee has already repeatedly demonstrated, in a bipartisan fashion, that it does not agree with this reckless approach.

"In the Senate FY23 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), we've authorized funding levels that actually keep up with inflation and continue to support programs like the sea-launched cruise missile (SLCM-N) and the B83 gravity bomb.

"We cannot lose sight of the importance of strengthening nuclear deterrence. Investments in these programs will help to complicate our adversaries' decision-making processes and ensure our own leaders have the full suite of options they need to respond to threats."
