Stefanik Calls on Amtrak to Announce Timeline for Resuming the Adirondack Line

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik today called on Amtrak to commit to a timeline for reopening the Adirondack line from Albany to Montreal that has been closed since the onset of the pandemic. This follows reports that Amtrak could resume its service, but Amtrak has failed to provide a date or details on when it will resume service in the spring of 2023.

"I'm calling on Amtrak to release the date when the Adirondack line will resume service, because families in Upstate New York and the North Country deserve certainty. For far too long, Amtrak delayed resuming this critical transportation, despite repeated calls to action from my office, and they still fail to commit to a date. A vague mention of Spring 2023 is not enough, and we must have a full commitment that Amtrak is dedicated to resuming service on the Adirondack line before tourist season is in full swing. I will continue to hold Amtrak accountable, so families in Upstate New York and the North Country can have certainty."

As soon as constituents brought this to her attention in May, Stefanik's office has been engaged with Amtrak to reopen the Adirondack Line. In July, after Amtrak resumed its Maple Leaf line from New York City to Toronto, Stefanik publicly called for Amtrak to restore the Adirondack line. Since then, her office has been pushing Amtrak on a deadline.
