Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Infrastructure

Today, Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) -- Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development -- released the following statement after the House passed her Energy and Water Appropriations bill that will invest in America's energy and water needs and support good-paying jobs. The House and Senate will need to come to agreement on the bills before they are signed into law.

Today, the House passed Rep. Kaptur's annual appropriations bill to fund the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), and other federal agencies for fiscal year 2023. As Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, Rep. Kaptur crafted the $56 billion funding bill that will spur energy innovation and lower costs, improve water infrastructure and protect Lake Erie, and support good-paying jobs.

The bill funds DOE's work overseeing the nation's energy production and delivery; enhancing energy supply chains and resilience; scaling the use of renewable energy technologies such as solar, hydrogen, nuclear, and wind; deploying home and community weatherization programs; and safeguarding the nation's nuclear stockpile. The bill also funds the Corps' work rebuilding ports and dams, dredging waterways, and protecting freshwater ecosystems like Lake Erie.

"Moving America forward requires responsibly investing in energy innovation, resilient water infrastructure, and the health and vitality of Lake Erie," said Rep. Kaptur. "Modernizing ports and waterways will ensure industrial and agricultural goods make their way to manufacturers and markets reliably and affordably. Combatting harmful algal blooms and invasive species will strengthen Lake Erie's fishing and boating industries. And diversifying energy sources and advancing next generation technology will help secure our energy independence and lower costs on consumers and businesses. By wisely utilizing precious taxpayer dollars, our Energy and Water bill is focused on supporting good-paying jobs and ensuring America is set to capture the future."
