Congresswoman Lee Releases Statement on House Vote for Assault Weapons Ban

Press Release

Date: July 29, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Congresswoman Barbara Lee today released the following statement on the announcement that the House of Representatives would hold a standalone vote on the Assault Weapons Ban:

"I applaud Speaker Pelosi and my Democratic colleagues for taking action to advance the Assault Weapons Ban for a standalone vote today. From Sandy Hook to Parkland to Uvalde, AR-15 style firearms have been the weapon of choice for shooters looking to kill as many people as quickly as possible. They have no place in our schools, our streets, or anywhere in our communities.

"Banning assault weapons is a crucial and long-overdue action that will save lives, but we must also continue to develop the separate legislative proposals on combatting gun violence, such as essential legislation currently being considered from Reps. Katie Porter and Steven Horsford. I urge my colleagues to swiftly pass this legislation so we can send it to the Senate expeditiously. We cannot rest until our laws ensure our schools, grocery stores, places of worship, hospitals, and all of our communities are safe."
