Statement

Date: Sept. 30, 2022
Location: Washington, D.C.
Issues: Environment

Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01), with the New Mexico delegation, secured $2.5 million in federal relief for New Mexicans affected by the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon fire in the Continuing Resolution passed today.

"Today, I was proud to help secure over $2.5 billion for New Mexicans affected by the largest wildfire in our state's history, while voting to keep the government running and provide needed disaster relief to communities across the country affected by storms and flooding. I am particularly proud to have worked alongside our delegation to help secure resources New Mexicans need to recover and rebuild.

"The House has done our Constitutional duty to keep our agencies funded for the coming weeks, but more work and a full-year budget remains, including passing the over $18 million in funding I secured for community projects for New Mexico. These projects will help get fentanyl off our streets and address public safety, invest in behavioral health care, and tackle homelessness, housing, and food insecurity. It's time for the Senate to deliver for New Mexicans by passing the Fiscal Year 2023 budget so we can get these critical dollars out the door to our communities."

The Continuing Resolution will keep key government agencies funded until December 16, 2022.
