Date: Sept. 1, 2022
Location: Albuquerque, N.M.

Last night, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) conducted her ninth telephone town hall in office to answer constituent questions and outlined how the Inflation Reduction Act will lower energy, health care and prescription drug costs for all New Mexicans.

Over 3,000 New Mexicans tuned in to last night's town hall.

"The Inflation Reduction Act will help to ease some of those big challenges around our economy, especially around health care, energy costs, and prescription drugs," said Rep. Stansbury. "This legislation will expand insurance, impacting thousands of New Mexicans, and also expand Medicaid and Medicare. It will also lower prescription drug costs across the board for our elders who are on Medicare and cap out-of-pocket costs."

Rep. Stansbury answered constituent questions during the one-hour telephone town hall on topics ranging from crime and public safety, housing and homelessness, energy and climate change, and the urgent work to defend democracy and free and fair elections.

The Inflation Reduction Act:

Allows Medicare to negotiate drug prices and caps out-of-pocket costs to $2,000
Lowers health insurance premiums by thousands of dollars for New Mexicans for millions of Americans
Enacts historic deficit reduction to fight inflation
Lowers energy costs, increases cleaner production, and reduces carbon emissions by roughly 40% by 2030
Closes tax loopholes so the biggest corporations and ultra-wealthy pay their fair share
Does not raise taxes on families making $400,000 or less and no new taxes on small businesses
