After news that Kesley Vial, an immigrant from Brazil seeking asylum in the United States, died in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Torrance County Detention Facility operated by CoreCivic in New Mexico, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) issued the following statement:

"We are heartbroken at the news of Kesley Vial's death at the Torrance County Detention Facility and are holding Vial's loved ones and everyone impacted by his passing in our hearts during this difficult time. My office and I will continue our oversight efforts to ensure that the public fully understands the causes and circumstances surrounding this death and are here to support the community."
