Location: Albuquerque, N.M.

Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) toured the East Mountain Food Pantry to learn more about their critical work to feed local families. During the tour, Rep. Stansbury highlighted the $875,000 in funding she secured to expand the food pantry, funding construction for a new, purpose-built facility that will support efficient service to more households.

During her visit, Rep. Stansbury spoke to volunteers and staff, learned more about the challenges the food pantry is facing, and heard first-hand accounts of the need for more dedicated resources to combat hunger and food insecurity in the region. The East Mountain Food Pantry provided food for over 625,000 meals during 2021.

"I'm proud that we were able to secure $875,000 in funding that will support the East Mountain Food Pantry as they expand their critical efforts to keep our communities fed," said Rep. Stansbury. "Too many hardworking families across New Mexico are facing food insecurity and struggling to make ends meet. No child should ever have to wonder where their next meal is coming from -- that's why I'm proud that the funding we secured for the East Mountain Food Pantry will facilitate the construction of a new facility that allows them to better serve the needs of our local communities."

The $875,000 Rep. Stansbury secured in the FY 2023 Budget for the East Mountain Food Pantry will be used to construct a new, purpose-built 6,000-10,000 square foot facility that will make it possible for the organization to efficiently serve more households across the region.

In July, Rep. Stansbury secured over $18 million for key 15 Community Funded Projects to improve public safety, housing, economic development, and community well-being in New Mexico's First Congressional District as part of the FY 2023 budget. Rep. Stansbury chose projects that reflected the diverse needs of communities across New Mexico, including the East Mountain Food Pantry, which was selected as a funding recipient from a pool of over 200 organizations that submitted projects to Rep. Stansbury's office for consideration.
