Rep. Stansbury Hails Key Veterans' Health Care Bill Becoming Law

Statement

Date: Aug. 10, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) issued the following statement celebrating President Biden's signing of the Honoring Our PACT ACT into law:

"Today, we took a critical step to honor our nation's heroes with more than just words. The bipartisan Honoring Our PACT Act of 2022 will improve health care for 3.5 million veterans, the single biggest increase in services for veterans who have been exposed to dangerous substances in over 30 years.

"We owe it to our soldiers to provide them the health care they need to recover from conditions they were exposed to while serving our country. After breathing toxic fumes from burn pits, too many veterans have had to live with creeping and unexplained illnesses while being denied care by the nation they served so honorably. I'm proud that the PACT Act will strengthen health care and benefits for our veterans, and I will continue the work to honor our sacred pact to our nation's veterans in Congress."

Rep. Stansbury has fought for our nation's veterans throughout her service in Congress, voting to pass the Honoring our Pact Act of 2022 in March. Rep. Stansbury has also joined members of New Mexico's congressional delegation to fight against the closure of rural VA outpatient clinics that provide critical healthcare to New Mexico's veterans.
