Moulton Statement in Support of Women's Rights Protests in Iran

Statement

Date: Oct. 11, 2022

Congressman Seth Moulton issued the following statement in support of the ongoing protests for women's rights across Iran:

"The women of Iran have shown more bravery, defiance, and resilience over the course of the last few weeks than most people will ever show in a lifetime.
Women have sacrificed enough in service of an Iranian regime that has for too long buoyed itself on oppression, where any form of dissent is met with harsh punishment; and where fear is used as a tool to quash dissent.

I'm proud to join my colleagues in Congress on the bipartisan H.Res. 1397, which condemns the Iranian government's murder of Masha Amini, H. Cont. Res. 110 commending the bravery of the women and men currently risking so much to demonstrate in the streets; and H.R.9075, which calls on Iran to immediately end its human rights abuses, and authorizes the Secretary of State to assist civil society organizations that support political prisoners.

Iranian women (and all women around the world) should have the freedom to choose how they dress, what they learn, and what they say. There is no going back now. I hope that this movement will continue to receive the attention it deserves, and that the strength of the women and men protesting will prevail over those who want to silence them."
