Congressman Correa Co-Leads Legislation to Update Registry Date

Today, Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA) joined his colleagues Rep. Zoe Lofgren (CA-19), Rep. Norma Torres (CA-35), Rep. Jesús "Chuy" Garcia (IL-04), Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) and Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06), in helping introduce the Renewing Immigration Provisions of the Immigration Act of 1929.

"Since the beginning, I have fought for the budget reconciliation process to include an updated immigration reform. Now is the time to pass legislation in the House and Senate.

The United States immigration system has been broken for more than 35 years, and our nation and our immigrant neighbors cannot wait any longer. The legislation introduced today would provide immigrants the opportunity to earn permanent status in the United States.

The updated registry bill date allows new applicants to apply if they have been in the United States for seven years. I will continue to advocate and work with my colleagues to pass an immigration reform that keeps our hardworking immigrant community safe and allows them to obtain the American dream."
