CONGRESSWOMAN SARA JACOBS VOTES TO PASS ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN

Press Release

Date: July 29, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (CA-53) today voted to pass the Assault Weapons Ban to save lives and keep weapons of war out of our communities. The Assault Weapons Ban would define assault weapons and large-capacity magazines and make them illegal to import, sell, manufacture, transfer, and possess, without affecting those already in existence. Research has shown that a federal assault weapons ban would reduce mass shooting deaths by 70%. Congresswoman Jacobs is an original co-sponsor of the legislation and a proud member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

"Assault weapons that are designed to kill as many people as possible, and as quickly as possible, have no business on our streets and in our communities," said Congresswoman Sara Jacobs. "As a member of the Columbine generation -- one that grew up in the shadow of gun violence and school shootings -- I refuse to accept that we are powerless to protect our grocery stores, places of worship, schools, and communities from gun violence. I'm proud to have passed the Assault Weapons Ban today on behalf of the young leaders across America who have demanded change and deserve better."
