Congressman Pat Fallon Introduces Legislation to Protect America's Strategic Petroleum Reserve

Date: June 15, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

arlier today, Congressman Pat Fallon (TX-04) introduced The Strategic Petroleum Reserve Anti-Exploitation Act. This legislation prevents exploitation of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) by placing a check on the Executive Branch. It would require an act of Congress specifying a national emergency before a sale or drawdown of the SPR can occur.

Congressman Fallon issued the following statement on his bill:

"Joe Biden's recent abuse of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is unacceptable and an abuse of power. Under President Trump, the SPR reached record levels and now, this Administration has drained it to its lowest levels in almost 40 years. The SPR is meant for weather or national security emergencies, not political expediency. However, it is clear that Joe Biden is using the SPR to prop up his Administration's unfeasible Green New Deal policies.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve Anti-Exploitation Act prevents exploitation of the SPR by placing a check on the Executive Branch. If this Administration will not hold themselves accountable, Congress must."
