Higgins, Palmer, Republican Colleagues Introduce Resolution To Support American Energy Production

Statement

Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA), Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL), and 77 Republican colleagues recently introduced H. Res. 1020, which calls on the Biden administration to reestablish American energy independence and stop seeking oil from the oppressive regimes in Venezuela and Iran.

The resolution calls on the Biden administration to lift the leasing moratorium on federal lands and waters, authorize completion of the Keystone XL pipeline, streamline the approval of new drilling leases, and address regulatory burdens on domestic energy production. It condemns Venezuela and Iran's record of human rights violations, extrajudicial killings, and state-sanctioned terrorism and urges the Biden administration to keep sanctions intact. "We should never ask foreign dictators to fill America's energy needs,"said Congressman Higgins. "The energy we consume could be 100% produced in America. Biden has to just step away from his administration's war on the oil and gas industry, it's not right and it's not smart. His policies are enriching our adversaries at the expense of American families. We must expand domestic energy production and reestablish American energy independence."

Congressman Higgins has co-sponsored several other bills to override the Biden administration's anti-American energy policies and help expand U.S. energy production. These pieces of legislation include:

H.R. 522, the Conservation Funding Protection Act, which would require annual lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico region of the Outer Continental Shelf to protect offshore drilling activity and related conservation efforts.
H.R. 543, the Protecting our Wealth of Energy Resources (POWER) Act, which would prohibit the president or his secretaries of the Interior, Agriculture, and Energy departments from blocking energy or mineral leasing and permitting on federal lands and waters without congressional approval.
H.R. 684, the Keystone XL Pipeline Construction and Jobs Preservation Act, which would authorize the Keystone XL project and clarify that a presidential permit is not required for the construction, connection, operation, or maintenance of the outlined pipeline and border facilities.
H.R. 751, the Protecting American Energy Production Act, which would prohibit the President from banning the use of hydraulic fracturing without the approval of Congress.
H.R. 2705, the Natural Gas Export Expansion Act, which would expedite the application and approval process for natural gas exports.
H.R. 6858, the American Energy Independence from Russia Act, which would require the President to produce an energy security plan, approve the Keystone XL pipeline, restart leasing on federal lands and waters, and take other actions to increase domestic energy production.
H.R. 6947, the Freedom from Russian Energy Enterprise and Domestic Oil Maximization (FREEDOM) Act, which would ban imports of crude oil, petroleum products, and LNG from Russia, authorize the Keystone XL pipeline, and nullify President Biden's executive order that paused oil and gas leasing on public lands.
H.R. 7115, the Small Scale LNG Access Act, which would expedite application and approval processes for small-volume exports of natural gas.
H. Res. 940, which calls on President Biden to restore U.S. energy security and take necessary actions to increase domestic energy production.
