Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) applauded President Biden for invoking the Defense Production Act of 1950 to address the baby formula shortage. Congressman Gonzalez joined 20 House members in signing H. Con. Res. 90, calling on President Biden to take such action.

"The baby formula shortage we are experiencing is an emergency situation requiring immediate action," stated Congressman Gonzalez "The federal government has an obligation to the American people to address this in an efficient, safe and healthy manner. No child should ever go hungry, and no parent should ever have to struggle to feed their children."

The House also passed H.R. 7790, the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022, to provide $28 million in emergency funding for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to address the current crisis and identify steps to prevent future crises. The bill now awaits consideration by the U.S. Senate.
