Leader Rodgers on Biden's Gas Tax Gimmick

Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement on President Biden's expected announcement about a federal gas tax delay on Wednesday.

"A federal gas tax delay proposal is simply another ineffective political band-aid from President Biden that would do little to lower unaffordable costs every family is paying at the gas pump to the grocery store. In addition, it will have longer term consequences on road safety and improvements by diverting funds away from infrastructure projects across the country. Under President Biden's proposal, people will be forced to drive on unsafe, potholed roads to get the gas they can't afford. This is the reality of President Biden's war on American energy.

"Just like when he started depleting our strategic petroleum reserve, a gas tax delay won't work to lower prices and it will leave America more vulnerable. It's time to face reality, stop offering gimmicks, and stop blaming Putin. This is President Biden's price hike since day one of his administration. President Biden needs to flip the switch on American energy and support bills like the American Energy Independence from Russia Act. We need to take action to unleash American energy by boosting natural gas production, restarting oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters, and protecting future energy and mineral development from attacks by the Biden administration."
