Rep. LaTurner Slams Secretary Mayorkas on Catch and Release Policies

Date: May 2, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Today, Congressman Jake LaTurner questioned Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on DHS' request for a significant increase in funding for the Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program. This questioning took place during the House Homeland Security Committee hearing on the Biden administration's FY23 budget request for the Department of Homeland Security.

Congressman LaTurner issued the following statement at the conclusion of his remarks:

"President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have requested over $500 million to fund Alternatives to Detention (ATD) programs, but $0 to resume construction on the border wall," said Congressman LaTurner. "With over 221,000 illegal immigrants apprehended at the southern border in March, the Biden Administration needs to focus on proven solutions to help secure our border--not catch and release policies that invite even more mass migration."
