Rep. LaTurner Slams President Biden for Lifting Title 42

Statement

This morning, Congressman Jake LaTurner issued the following statement after the Biden Administration's announcement that the United States is lifting Title 42 restrictions at our southern border on May 23, 2022:

"By lifting Title 42 restrictions, President Biden has doubled down on his reckless open-border agenda. Title 42 was one of the few tools DHS had at its disposal to quickly expel migrants who have entered the country illegally and was vital in helping contain the national security and humanitarian crisis at our southern border, "said Congressman LaTurner. "Title 42 should remain in place until the record number of illegal border crossings drops to a manageable level for our brave law enforcement officers."

Background:

Under Title 42, it can take 15 minutes to deport an illegal border crosser.
Under its alternative, Title 8, that process could balloon to 50 hours for a single adult and 62 hours for a family unit.
In February alone, 55% of the total encounters at the Southern Border were processed for expulsion under Title 42.
DHS officials are preparing for up to 18,000 migrants per day crossing the southern border once Title 42 restrictions are lifted.
