Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann offered his congratulations and welcomed Scorpion Biological Services, a subsidiary of Heat Biologics, Inc., to the First Congressional District of Kansas. The Kansas Governor's office and Scorpion announced on Monday that their new 500,000 square foot biomanufacturing facility will be developed in Pottawatomie County near Manhattan.

"It is a tremendous honor to welcome Scorpion to the Big First District," said Rep. Mann. "The Riley and Pottawatomie County areas are leading the way with innovative research efforts at Kansas State University, Biosecurity Research Institute (BRI), and the USDA National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF). Adding the biodefense and biopharmaceutical research of Scorpion further exemplifies the community's efforts to put the United States, and Kansas, in the driver's seat of disease protection. On top of their groundbreaking research, Scorpion will stimulate the local and state economy with more than 500 jobs with starting salaries at $75,000, and a total capital investment of $650 million. I'm excited to see what great accomplishments come out of Scorpion's new biodefense biomanufacturing facility, and I look forward to working closely with them in the future."

Heat Biologics, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing first-class therapies to modulate the immune system.
