Rep. Mann Votes Against Fourth Short-Term Budget Continuing Resolution, Omnibus Spending Bill

Statement

Date: March 10, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) released the following statement regarding his votes against the $1.5 trillion omnibus spending bill for Fiscal Year 2022 and a fourth continuing resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives:

"Rather than fulfilling their constitutional duty to have a true debate on our nation's finances and pass a comprehensive, fiscally responsible budget, Washington Democrats have kicked the can down the road with three continuing resolutions since October 2021. They also decided it was finally time to hold a vote on their omnibus spending bill for Fiscal Year 2022, nearly 6 months after fiscal year 2022 began and only 12 hours after releasing the final text.

The 2,700-page omnibus bill, which Speaker Pelosi released at 1:30 AM on the day of the vote, increases government spending by nearly $100 billion. In the past year, inflation has risen by nearly 8%, almost neck and neck with the growth of government spending. The deficit spending contained in the omnibus bill will only add more fuel to the inflation fire. To make matters worse, the omnibus bill is the first one since 2011 that isn't subject to budget caps, leaving the door wide open for our $30 trillion national debt to grow even larger. It also contains over 2,700 earmarks, returning us to a process that is bad for the country.

These last-minute spending bills are bad for America, and they force Americans to foot the bill. Congress must produce a national budget through the right process, reign in government waste, and end Washington's spending addiction."
