BROWN ANNOUNCES NEARLY $4 MILLION FOR OHIO AIRPORTS

Press Release

Date: July 11, 2022
Location: Washington, D.C.

Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award $3,735,000 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to two Ohio airports to rebuild their terminal buildings. Building better airport terminals will improve customer experiences, move goods more efficiently to lower prices, and enhance U.S. competitiveness.

"Ohio airports are vital infrastructure supporting travel and commerce in our state," said Brown. "These investments will allow the Darke County Airport and the Newark Heath Airport to upgrade their outdated facilities and improve travel for area residents and businesses."

The funding includes:

$1,350,000 to Darke County Airport to construct a new terminal building to replace the current building which is more than 50 years old and an obstruction to the current runway design. The new terminal will comply with new accessibility requirements and have enhanced energy efficiency.
$2,385,000 to Newark Heath Airport to construct a new terminal building to replace the current building which is more than 60 years old and located in the taxiway. The new building will comply with new accessibility requirements and have enhanced energy efficiency.
Today's funding is from the Airport Terminal Program, one of three aviation programs created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The law provides $1 billion each year for five years for Airport Terminal grants.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, makes a historic investment in our nation's infrastructure and competitiveness. It will rebuild America's roads; bridges and rails; upgrade and expand public transit; modernize the nation's ports and airports; improve safety; tackle the climate crisis; advance environmental justice and invest in communities that have too often been left behind. It will drive the creation of good-paying union jobs and grow the economy sustainably and equitably to help everyone get ahead for decades to come.
