Today, after President Biden outlined plans for additional aid to help Ukraine against Russian aggression, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement:
"Throughout the war in Ukraine, President Biden and his administration have led the United States--and the international community--with admirable resolve. President Biden deserves credit for uniting NATO, coordinating international military assistance to Ukraine, and levying a crushing set of economic sanctions against the Kremlin.
"Under vicious assault, the Ukrainian military has repelled Putin's forces from Kyiv. The Ukrainian people have endured unspeakable hardship as they fight to defend the values of freedom and self-determination. We must continue to support them in this fight.
"Time is of the essence. Ukraine is fighting for its security and sovereignty and to halt Putin's aggression. Congress must expeditiously work together on a bipartisan basis to get more help to Ukraine without further delay.
"I look forward to thoroughly reviewing this request and strongly support President Biden's continued leadership on Ukraine."
