Congresswoman Torres Recognizes Second Anniversary of Roman-Martinez Disappearance and Death on Memorial Day

Statement

Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) released the following statement recognizing the 2-year anniversary of the disappearance and death of Army soldier Enrique Roman Martinez.

"Today, on Memorial Day, I'm thinking especially of the family of Enrique Roman-Martinez, a 21-year-old soldier from Chino. Two years ago, he was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina when he went missing on a camping trip with fellow soldiers. A week later, his severed head washed up on shore. Two years later, we still don't have definitive answers about what happened to Enrique, and we still don't have justice for his family. Enrique was so committed to serving our country, he had to get special permission from his mother to join the Army at 17 years old. He took an oath and made a commitment to defend this country no matter what, and that dedication led to his untimely and unjust death. If he were still alive, Enrique would be discharged and settling into his new life. Instead, his family has spent more two years waiting for justice and waiting for answers. We will continue to remember and honor Enrique's sacrifice and continue to seek answers and justice for his family."
