Rep. Allen Statement on Supreme Court Decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Case

Press Release

Date: June 24, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Today, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) released the following statement after the United States Supreme Court issued a majority opinion in favor of the plaintiff in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization:

"I applaud the Supreme Court's decision. In the decades since Roe v. Wade, more than 62 million innocent lives have been lost to abortion. This ruling comes amidst an unprecedented campaign of intimidation targeting the Justices of the Court, who have shown tremendous resolve in the face of violent threats. I remain committed to upholding the sanctity of life during my tenure in Congress."

BACKGROUND:

In 2018, Mississippi passed a law limiting abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, except to save the life and preserve the physical health of the mother, or in cases of severe fetal abnormality.

On July 29, 2021, Congressman Allen joined 44 Senators and 183 House members in submitting a Congressional amicus brief in the Dobbs v. Jackson case-- urging the Supreme Court to reconsider the viability standards imposed by Roe v. Wade(1973) and Casey v. Planned Parenthood(1992).
