"Today, for the first time in nearly 30 years, Congress has sent a gun violence prevention bill to the President's desk.

It will help keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, crack down on unlicensed sellers & traffickers, and enhance background checks for those under 21.

This is only a first step.

People often look at the Civil Rights Act as if it were one big bill passed in one day, but we didn't get voting until '65. We didn't get housing until '68. But we had to start somewhere.

And that's what we've done here today."
