Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) was pleased to announce the inclusion of his community project funding request in the Fiscal Year 2023 Homeland Security government funding bill. The bill must now be approved by the full committee.

"The Homeland Security funding bill that we approved today in the Appropriations subcommittee will support a wide range of federal programs that protect our country from attack as well as help communities respond to emergencies. I was pleased to secure support for the Miller County Emergency Communications Center," said Congressman Bishop. "Making sure emergency communications systems are up-to-date is important, but can sometimes be cost-prohibitive for smaller communities. That is why I worked hard to direct federal funding to Miller County's center so its emergency services can better coordinate in response to accidents, crime, and natural disasters."

The inclusion of this funding in the Appropriations Committee draft bill is the first step in the funding process. Congressman Bishop will continue to fight for this funding as the bill moves to the full Appropriations Committee, consideration on the House Floor, and negotiations with the Senate.
