Mccollum Mourns The Passing Of Minnesota Congressman Jim Hagedorn

Statement

Date: Feb. 18, 2022

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04), Dean of the Minnesota Congressional Delegation, issued the following statement today after learning Congressman Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) has died after a three-year battle with Stage IV kidney cancer:

"Since 2019, Congressman Hagedorn represented the cities, towns, and farms of southern Minnesota's First Congressional District. The son of former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn, and a former congressional affairs officer for two U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies, public service played a prominent role in Rep. Hagedorn's life. In his service on the Small Business and Agriculture Committees, Rep. Hagedorn worked to expand broadband access to rural communities, as well as provide additional support for farmers and ranchers during the pandemic.

"Jim and I served in the U.S. House during a time of many great challenges for our nation and for our state -- and all the while, he bravely endured the personal challenge of cancer treatment with dignity and grace while serving our country and his constituents. Despite our policy differences on many issues, Jim and I were united in the common goal of achieving greater opportunities for future generations of Minnesotans. I want to offer my deepest condolences to Jim's family and the people of the First Congressional District during this difficult time. The Minnesota Congressional delegation is grateful for Representative Jim Hagedorn's service to our country."
