Mccollum Statement Condemning Bomb Threats Against Hbcus

Statement

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) issued the following statement after at least six Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were targeted with bomb threats Monday:

"I am deeply concerned about the well-being and safety of students, staff, and professors of the six HBCUs targeted with bomb threats today. Black institutions -- whether HBCU, place of worship, community space, or historic neighborhood -- and community members deserve to exist in a society without the threat of violence. These terroristic threats demand a strong and comprehensive federal law enforcement response that holds the perpetrators accountable. In Congress, I have long fought to increase federal support for HBCUs and the leadership, educational, and economic opportunities they offer to students across the nation. I will continue to work to ensure these historic institutions have the resources to continue their legacy -- and it is up to all of us to fight back against racism and hate-based crimes."
